Lifelong friends, Sylvan Schefler, Lew Rappaport, Al Schragis, Larry McDonald and Harvey Rothenberg are keeping their tradition going, by attending this year’s Super Bowl, making it their 50th trip to the big game.
It all started in 1967 when the group of friends, now known as the “Super Bowl Five,” attended their very first Super Bowl together. They haven’t missed a Super Bowl since and plan on attending Sunday’s game featuring the Carolina Panthers versus the Denver Broncos.
In an interview with TODAY show’s Savannah Guthrie, Schefler said, “Nothing is forever. We all understand that. But we’ve been blessed to have had the opportunity to say this is 50 years.” He continued, “We’re devoted to each other, and we’re devoted to the Super Bowl.”
They have customized jackets, bath robes and rings in honor of the “Super Bowl Five,” and honor one rule..no wives at the game!
