Elvira Montes competed in the 2015 FloTrack Beer Mile World Championships in Austin, Texas at age 81, making her the oldest finisher in the competition. She even beat her own daughter’s time in the race, which requires runners to finish drinking 12-ounces of beer before each lap–four times during the mile race.

Montes has been running for years and has participated in her fair share of competitions – but this “beer mile” is something she’s getting used to.

Montes is a grandmother and prefers sipping scotch versus a bottle of suds, but guzzled down the alcoholic beverages anyway. She told Runner’s World she wasn’t thrilled with her chugging skills saying, “I should have been a little faster. I tried to drink the first one really fast but I couldn’t. The second one went down really smooth; the third, even better. The fourth was alright.”

“I don’t have any secrets,” she told the publication, “I just wanted to prove to my daughter that I could run and drink beer.”

To celebrate her completion of the race, she took her family out for chicken wings and of course, Scotch.
