Actor Jamie Foxx came to the rescue when he pulled a man from a car that caught on fire. No, this was not part of an elaborate action sequence from a movie set, this was real life.

Foxx sprung into action when he witnessed a car crash in Hidden Valley, Calif. The 48-year-old actor told ABC 7 he used scissors from another bystander to cut driver’s seatbelt in order to get him out of the car, just in time. “As we pulled him out, within five seconds later, the truck goes up in flames.”

The 32-year-old driver of the vehicle, Brett Kyle, was taken to the hospital, treated for a broken collarbone and punctured lung. He was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Brett told NBC Los Angeles, “Just the fact that one human being was willing to help another one means a lot to me.”

Brett’s father, Brad, was especially thankful for Foxx’s heroic efforts. He and Foxx met a day after the accident, happy to be able to show his thanks in person, Brad giving the actor a huge hug. Foxx posted a snapshot of their embrace saying, “Met the father of the young man from last night today. This is all that matters. That a man, a son, a brother’s life was spared last night. God had his arms wrapped around all of us…No heroes…Just happy fathers.”
