Airports across the United States are flooded this time of year with an influx of travelers for the holiday season. One airline decided they would attempt to ease the stresses of holiday travel, which often include long layovers, delays or even cancellations.

American Airlines enlisted the help of 200 therapy dogs across seven different airports with a program called “United Paws,” a program that provides professionally trained comfort dogs.

“United Paws is a wonderful program that comes at just the right time for some holiday travelers who may be experiencing a bit of anxiety or stress,” said Veterinary Consultant Dr. Walter Woolf in a United Airlines statement. “Research shows that just petting a dog releases oxytocin, the hormone associated with bonding and affection, and also decreases levels of stress, helps us breathe easier and lowers our blood pressure. I’ve experienced this recently and think this is a wonderful idea for holiday travelers.”

Travelers can see these furry friends in airports such as Chicago O’Hare, Denver International, George Bush Intercontinental Houston, Newark Liberty International, Los Angeles International, Dulles International and Cleveland Hopkins International.
