Iron Soup Historical Preservation along with dozens of volunteers joined forced in an effort to convert 100-year-old abandoned buildings into apartments for homeless veterans in Campbell, Ohio.
Volunteers from construction companies, such as Brian Reed are donating their time and labor along with much needed supplies, working through the weekend to lay tile and put up dry wall.
Community residents have donated cabinets, tile and furniture to help the old buildings become inhabitable. The buildings, once remodeled will comprise of about 160 units.
“There are all kinds of units around here,” Iron Soup’s executive director Linda Gens told WKBN News. “They can all be rehabbed and it doesn’t take much money.”
When veterans learned about the project, Gens told the news outlet, “They are excited about it, they can’t wait!”
