In their 20’s Amy began growing her family, but Renee was hit with some tough news – she had breast cancer at the age of 25. Amy stuck by her side and Renee beat the cancer, only for it to return three years later, upon which she received even more heartbreaking news. Doctors informed Renee she would not be able to carry a child, Renee calling that day “the worst day of her life.” She recalled that there wasn’t a day that went by that she couldn’t picture herself as a mother.

Renee and her husband Daniel began contemplating adoption. Although Renee had saved her fertilized eggs, they never thought they’d ask anyone to be a surrogate.

One day, Daniel came home and told her he had some news. He told her that her best friend, Amy had offered to carry he and Renee’s baby. With Amy already a mom of four, and all under the age of six, Renee knew what a generous and selfless act she would be doing for her. When Daniel told Renee the news, she recalled, “there were no words.”
