Steve Bergstrom, 30, finds the dating scene difficult and time consuming, just like many people. With moving back to Chicago after living in Germany for three years, working a demanding job and still making time for his hobbies, he found finding time for a love life challenging.

He told Runner’s World, “I have a job that occupies a lot of my time,” he said. “Having a ridiculous hour commute each way, and then also being dedicated to my gym and dedicated to my sports, I don’t have a ton of spare time on my hands.”

Bergstrom is very active and has participated in 20 marathons and two Ironmans, according to BuzzFeed News. When the Chicago Marathon was quickly approaching, he thought to himself, why not put an ad on my back to try and get the attention of someone with a common interest.

With the help of his cousin, the personal ad was created. She took a Sharpie marker and wrote in large letters, “Single” adding “On Facebook” with his full name noted below.

He explained his hopes were high that he would meet someone special, but never expected the amount of attention from the media.

“It’s been a little overwhelming, but a lot of fun,” he said. “This was never about launching myself into stardom, or about trying to rack up as many dates as possible. I am a much bigger fan of quality than quantity.”

His plan, although, did work, telling WGN he has had 12 different women contact him on Facebook after seeing him on the course, and he even met up with one of them for a date.
