Seventeen-year-old Ledea Euell heard her mother screaming, “He’s not breathing-call 911,” as she clutched onto her newborn baby brother pacing back and forth in shock. Ledea told WREG it was something she learned in school three years prior that helped her spring into action and save her brother’s life.

Ledea’s quick thinking resulted in performing CPR on her younger brother, Major, was born two months premature. She told the news station, she remembered the steps from that health class years ago saying, “It’s like something I just always keep in the back of my mind.” She placed her finger on his chest and pumped 10 times before tilting his head back and breathing into his mouth and nose, steps that turned out, saved the boys life.

In an interview, Ledea remained humble and didn’t want to be thought of as a hero, instead urging others to learn CPR, because you never know when you may need to use it.

The Memphis family is thankful for Ledea’s heroic act and little Major is now recovering at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
